On the fence

We took Ashlyn to the park the other day. She loves slides. She loves swings. Of course, by the time I'd get my camera out and ready, she wasn't on the swing or the slide. She'd run away from me and all I'd get is a great shot of the back of her head. Or her butt. So, I gave up. I just wasn't going to get a good photo of her at the park today. Besides, it was just getting too dark.

Well, on the way to the car we decide to try and get just a couple shots of her on a blanket in the grass when we see this fence bordering the parking lot. Knowing her new-found passion for climbing everything under the sun, we take her over to the fence, and lo and behold, she's striking poses left and right. Didn't turn out too bad after all.

They paved paradise..

They're tearing down houses left and right these days to build highways, shopping centers, PARKING LOTS.. I visited a few in the area that have been abandoned for awhile now. Every day I drive past and wonder what they're like inside.. where the families had to go when the state told them to leave. I didn't expect to see them in such disarray - almost like the families just vanished. Some houses still had suitcases in the living room. One had an entire collection of National Geographic magazines - which nearly became mine. (Or, more likely, the eventual property of some lucky eBay bidder.) There was a Nintendo - the first one. I even found a wedding dress and wedding favors. Beds and games and children's toys and stuffed animals. A picture of Jesus. Books about guns. Such randomness, but all similar in that they were collectively abandoned.

Here are some remnants of these people's lives that may not be here tomorrow.

Happy Halloween!

The full moon loomed over everyone at the pumpkin patch as they looked at the pumpkins, rode the hayride and braved the cornfield maze. The children looked on excitedly at the livestock that was there, begging their parents for $.25 to get some "food" from the bubblegum machine so they can feed the animals. Other children played on the tire swings and in the treehouse. Then there I was, laying on the ground, seemingly taking a picture of the bottom of a cornstalk. I got some strange looks, but I also got this photo.

We were driving home from Knoxville, TN on Saturday and had to cross Percy Priest Lake. I'm not crazy about bridges, (or more accurately the water under the bridges..). So while crossing, I tried to distract myself and got off a few good shots.

With a view like this, maybe bridges aren't that bad after all. I just won't look down.

My best friend got married a few weeks ago at this beautiful vineyard in Kentucky and I had the honor of performing double duty as groomsman and photographer, (as well as a myriad of other roles). Somehow, we pulled it all off.

A pretty bad storm rolled through just south of us tonight. You could see the storm in the distance, but it was bright and sunny here. A pretty magnificent rainbow was the result.

We had just gotten back into town from a weekend in Lexington. It was Sunday, and The Family Guy's season premiere was on, so I was rushing to get home in time to see it (I'm addicted). I kept seeing this sunset in the rearview mirror. Finally, I pulled over and told my wife, "I'm sorry, but I just HAVE to take pictures of this."

I missed the first 5 minutes of The Family Guy. I think the shot was worth it.

Millenium Force - Cedar Point

This is Millenium Force at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.

310 foot hill. 93mph. It rocks.

My best friend & I went up for a two day trip just to go to the Point. What a blast! We also were participating in the America 24/7 digital photography contest throughout the trip. Here are two of the shots that we submitted.

I think I took 4 or 5 pictures before I got the cars stopped where I thought they looked best.
